Ferries

The Anacortes ferry terminal is roughly half an hour west, and from there Washington State Ferries run out to Lopez, Shaw, Orcas and Friday Harbor. The crossing itself is the attraction — islands, working boats and, often enough, wildlife off the rail. Sailings fill in summer, so check times before you set off.
